Tidal adds Dolby Atmos Music support to TVs, speakers and soundbars
Subscribers to Tidal’s HiFi tier can access some improved sound smarts with the right kit
by Henry BurrellTidal has announced that subscribers to its HiFi tier can now access Dolby Atmos Music playback if streaming Tidal through compatible TVs, home speakers and soundbars. It’s good news but does rely on your having specific hardware and being subscribed to Tidal’s £19.99 per month music service.
The HiFi tier offers high quality audio streams better than those on the regular tiers of rivals Spotify or Apple Music. If you own a Dolby Atmos supported TV, soundbar or home theatre speaker system you can now stream Dolby Atmos certified music playback through it when streaming using one of an Apple TV 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick (2nd gen), Fire TV (3rd gen), and Nvidia Shield TV or Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019 or newer models).
You’ll also be able to get the feature if you own a Sony or Philips Android TV with Dolby Atmos.
Tidal only launched its Dolby library of music back in December and at the time said it could only stream to certain Android mobile devices. Today’s news means that it’s now available through far better TV and home audio hardware, meaning you’ll be able to better take advantage of the high quality audio set up in your living room.
You can try the service for 60 days here.
