UK weather: How hot will this weekend's mini heatwave be?

This weekend's glorious weather may be followed by plummeting temperatures and outbreaks of rain

This weekend's mini heatwave is set to be followed by plummeting temperatures and outbreaks of rain, the Met Office has warned.

Temperatures are expected to peak on Sunday with highs of 28C in some parts of the country.

However, Mirror Online reports that the Met Office is predicting rain and strong winds for the northern and western parts of the UK from next week.

BBC forecasts agree there is "some uncertainty" as we leave May, with an area of low pressure likely moving in from the Atlantic and bringing showers.

Before that though, we can expect more of the sunshine and high temperatures we've been enjoying the past week.

The Met Office forecast for today (Friday, May 28) says: "Another fine, dry day with plenty of very warm sunshine.

"Highest temperatures over northern Scotland where an isolated late afternoon shower is possible over the mountains."

The outlook for Saturday to Monday then states: "Dry and sunny for most of the UK. Some low cloud may affect North Sea coasts at times.

"Generally warm, locally hot in sheltered parts of the north and west."

Here in Bristol, temperatures are expected to reach 24C on Saturday and 23C on Sunday.

Overnight temperatures at the weekend will also be staying mild in and around the city.

UV levels are set to be very high in our region over the weekend - so don't forget your sun cream.

And unfortunately for hayfever sufferers, according to the Met Office, pollen levels on Saturday and Sunday are expected to be very high.

The latest forecast suggests the warm temperatures are expected to continue into next week.
