In biggest spike, India records 7,466 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours; case tally tops 1.65 lakh

The death toll due to coronavirus in India rose to 4,706 and the number of cases climbed to 1,65,799 in the country, registering an increase of 175 deaths and a record spike of 7,446 cases in the last 24 hours since 8 am.

According to the latest data by the Union Health Ministry, the total number of cases in India stood at 1,65,799, including 89,987 active cases on Friday morning.

As many as 71,105 people in India have been recovered, the Health Ministry said.

Around 42.8 per cent patients have recovered so far.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in India with 59,546 cases on Friday. Tamil Nadu tally stood at 19,372 cases while Delhi and Gujarat have recorded 16,281 and 15,562 coronavirus cases respectively.

On Thursday, India registered an increase of 194 deaths and 6,566 cases in 24 hours The death toll due to Covid-19 was 4,531 while the number of cases stood at to 1,58,333 on Thursday.
