HIGHLIGHTS

The Jharkhand government will on Friday airlift 60 migrant labourers stranded in Batalik in Leh. At the initiative of the Jharkhand government, all the 60 migrant labourers were thermally screened and transported by BRO to Leh on Thursday to be airlifted to their native places in Jharkhand on Friday.

On May 10, the migrant workers stranded in Ladakh's Batalik sector had reached out to Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Twitter, requesting him to help them return to their native places in Jharkhand.

Upon their request, CM Hemant Soren urged Ladakh local administration to provide assistance to the migrant labourers. As soon as the request was made, the Jharkhand Control Room registered the migrants on state portal and App.

After the Central government allowed commercial air operations, Hemant Soren entrusted a small team to work out all operational possibilities for a safe return of 60 migrant workers.

The expenditure of approximately Rs 8 lakh will be incurred by the Jharkhand government. Hemant Soren has said that he would personally monitor the entire 48-hour coordination.

Jharkhand is now possibly the first state in the country to fly out migrants from inaccessible place to its own state bearing all own costs.

Upon their arrival in Ranchi, the migrants are most likely to be received by CM Hemant Soren himself. After which, they would be sent to Dumka by buses after necessary screenings.
