As Covid figures grow rapidly in TN, CM calls for Collectors’ meet

Chennai: With Tamilnadu witnessing 800 plus Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will today chair a video-conference with District Collectors.

According to sources, during the meeting, important issues such as combating the spread of the pandemic and extension of lockdown will be discussed. ‘Based on the inputs and a meeting with health experts tomorrow, the CM will take decision,’ sources said.

Twelve more people died of Covid-19 pushing the death toll in Tamilnadu to 145 as the state reported 827 new coronavirus cases taking the tally to 19,372, health authorities said on Thursday.

Reflecting the trend of high number of fresh infections, Tamilnadu recorded 800 plus cases for the second consecutive day and the newly infected include 117 returnees from states including Maharashtra and Karnataka. On Wednesday, Tamilnadu witnessed 817 fresh cases.

Those dead include a 72-year-old man with diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease and a 36-year-old man with tuberculosis.
