DURANT - The Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival will not produce a 2020 summer season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Housed on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival is a theater company that produces multiple theater productions every summer, as well providing theater classes during the school year.

Producing Director Riley Risso Coker announced the scrapping of the company's summer season in a letter posted today on Facebook. The cancellation extends to the Children's Theatre Workshop and Young Actors' Studio.

"The decision to cancel our educational programs this summer was especially painful for me. However, keeping our children safe is my top priority," Coker writes in her letter.
