SM Foundation: Continuing a culture of giving
by Manila Standard DigitalThe corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic has not deterred SM Foundation's initiatives and efforts to aid underserved communities.
SM Group's social arm continues to address their needs via their programs focused on health and well-being, education, training, and small enterprise support. The foundation continues to look for new avenues and means to support these communities as well as various groups to collaborate with to fulfill this goal. These trying times are filled with opportunities for the SM Foundation to serve. SM Foundation was one of the first groups to procure, donate, and distribute roughly P270 million worth of personal protective equipment (PPEs), testing kits, and intensive care unit-grade ventilators to over 100 hospitals and medical institutions throughout the Philippines.
In an effort to support our medical frontliners during the pandemic, the Foundation partnered with Goldilocks to distribute 22,700 snacks and pastries to 80 hospitals and medical institutions in 13 Metro Manila cities. Further support was provided via SM Foundation's continuing partnership with the clothing brand Uniqlo Philippines by distributing comfort fit undershirts and PPEs to frontliners, relief packs in grassroots communities, and test kits to UP-NIH.
Through its SM Engineering Design and Development team, SM Foundation set up seven quarantine facilities at the AFP Medical Center (V. Luna General Hospital) and Camp Crame (Quezon City), and Villamor Air Base (Pasay City).
SM Foundation believes it is our responsibility to help our countrymen and to encourage a culture of giving. As a member of the community, we need to extend help and support to the people who care for us.
