Thomas Davis GFC, Newry runs to the aid of Southern Area Hospice

A world-wide charity initiative organised by the hard-working Thomas Davis GAA club in Newry has raised a hefty sum for the Southern Area Hospice in county Down.

Members of the Thomas Davis club, spread as far apart as Ireland, Australia and the United States of America, joined together over the course of a week for a 1,000 kilometres fund-raising run.

Pictured here, representatives of the Southern Area Hospice receive a cheque for £3,303.61 from Thomas Davis club captain David Murphy, vice-captain David Casey, coach Conor Brennan and chairman David O'Brien.

''It took a lot of hard work and sacrifice to make this happen. From organising to taking part in it. Everyone involved was fantastic from start to finish,'' said club chairman David O'Brien.

''We want to thank all our senior lads here in Ireland, Australia and the USA that took part in the running, going above and beyond for this wonderful charity.

''And to everyone that donated, your money will contribute to a great cause and is much needed at this time.''
