West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United could be promoted to the Premier League without finishing the season.
The Championship's top two are keen to complete the job by playing their remaining nine matches, however one EFL chairman has been told that isn't necessary for promotion to be granted.
Fixtures across the nation have been suspended for nearly three months now, with Albion and their second tier rivals only returning to training on Monday.

Transfer warning
Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton has warned Leeds United and West Brom they must act fast if they want to sign Connor Goldson.
Albion were extensively linked with the Gers defender in the January window, with suggestions they could reignite their interest when the season ends.
Earlier this week, Leeds emerged as a potential rival for Goldson, with Marcelo Bielsa keen to sign him if they win promotion.
Positive tests
Fulham have confirmed that they have had two players test positive for coronavirus.
The Cottagers, who are currently third in the Championship, are six points behind West Brom and a further point behind Leeds United.
Scott Parker's side will be keen for the campaign to resume, with a points-per-game scenario favouring the two teams currently in the automatic promotion spots.
Domino effect?
The Premier League will begin again on June 17 - and it could be a huge boost to the prospects of West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United, who both hope to earn promotion back to the top flight by completing their remaining fixtures.
The top flight clubs met on Thursday to discuss the resumption of the campaign, and it’s understood that, principle, clubs have agreed to return to the pitch in the middle of next month.
They will begin with the matches that are outstanding; Manchester City welcome Arsenal and Aston Villa host Sheffield United on the above date, before a full round of fixtures involving all 20 clubs will take place over the course of Friday June 19 - Sunday June 21.
Hint dropped
Charlton Athletic chief Steve Gallen can see the EFL resuming their campaign in the same period of time as the Premier League.
The Addicks’ director of football, having spoken to the league this week, has been led to believe that it’ll be around four weeks from now before the Championship is getting back underway and completing its campaign.
Such news is a boost to both West Brom and Leeds United; the division’s outright top two have both already indicated that they’d rather complete their seasons and earn their promotion than have it handed to them on a points per game average basis.
