Report: Italian Giants Are Interested In Signing Jeff Hendrick On A Free Transfer

Jeff Hendrick can be a difficult player to judge at times. The Dubliner starts pretty much every game at both club and international level, putting in solid performances on most occasions. However, you always get the sense he has more in him.

Hendrick was incredible during Ireland's run at Euro 2016, looking like a potential world beater in the midfield. That resulted in a big money move to Burnley, where he has been a consistent member of the starting team.

With only nine games remaining in the Premier League season, the midfielder's contract is set to expire in the coming months. He by no means looks certain to leave Turf Moor, but his future is up in the air at the moment. He could even have a big move on the horizon.

Sky Sports are reporting that Italian giants AC Milan are interested in signing the 28-year old, having made their interest known to the midfielder prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

They continue to assess their options, but a free transfer could look even more attractive now that summer budgets are likely to be reduced. A number of Premier League clubs are also thought to be interested in the player.

Now in his late-twenties, this could the last opportunity for Hendrick to secure a major move and a big contract.

AC Milan currently sit in seventh place in Serie A and look incredibly unlikely to be playing in the Champions League next season. Still, a move to a club of that stature would be incredibly difficult to turn down.

He is also free to sign a contract with Milan, with players who have less than six months remaining on their current deals entitled to sign a pre-contract agreement with a team from the continent.

If the move did go through, Hendrick would become the first Irishman to play in Serie A since Robbie Keane at the turn of the century.
