Coronavirus Briefs: Red Cross volunteers step up

The Namibia Red Cross Society currently has 230 volunteers who have been trained on both Covid-19 prevention measures and psychological support. These volunteers are involved in risk communication and community engagement in nine regions across the country.

Helman Aluvilu, one of the volunteers, is serving at the Omahenene border post village in the Omusati region. He helps villagers install tippy taps and demonstrates proper hand-washing techniques.

Aluvilu's commitment garnered the attention of the regional police, who came to his aid with food and accommodation.

According to spokesperson Edmund Khoaseb, stakeholders in the region have decided to set up a team to help the most vulnerable because of Aluvilu's diligence.

No Covid-19 cases in Oshana

THE Oshana region has 12 people in quarantine, with no Covid-19 cases.

Nine of the quarantined are Angolan nationals and three are Namibian lorrie drivers who travelled from South Africa.

Oshana health director Johanna Haimene said a total of 20 people have been tested in the region, including those already discharged from quarantine. Sixteen cases tested negative, while two were rejected and another two are still pending.

None of the people quarantined are showing symptoms of Covid-19.

Charity organisation hands out health packs

THE Namibia Red Cross Society has not only bee spreading awareness of Covid-19 across the country, it has also been distributing health packs to vulnerable groups in different regions.

These groups include the homeless, the elderly and those living without safe water sources.

The society is currently active in the Kunene, Zambezi, Khomas, Otjozondjupa, Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Oshana, Kavango West and Kavango East regions.
