Hyderabad: At least ten huts and two auto-rickshaws were damaged when a fire broke out due to an LPG leakage at Bapuji Nagar in Bowenpally on Friday. No casualties were reported in the fire which is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, police said.

According to the police, the incident occurred when one of the huts caught fire due to the gas leakage in the morning. Alerted by this, residents in the huts adjacent to it rushed out of the houses to safety.

Within minutes, the fire spread to other huts in the neighbourhood. Locals in the nearby residential area noticed the fire and thick smoke emanating from the huts and alerted the fire department and the police.

The police and the fire personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire within one hour.

Officials said straw and plastic material in the huts could have led to the thick smoke apart from the unpleasant odour in the surroundings.

The total worth of the damaged property is yet to be estimated. A complaint was yet to be lodged. The Bowenpally police are investigating.
