Rumor | Shocking PS5 rumors claim unstable CPU and GPU clocks, unattractive box design, quiet and efficient cooling solution, 40% better ray tracing than the Xbox Series X, and a US$499 price tag for the PlayStation 5

A highly dubious PS5 leak has appeared on an imageboard website with a series of claims made about the next-gen console. Apparently, the CPU and GPU clocks are unstable and the PS5 design is “ugly”. However, these cons are countered by pros such as supposedly better ray-tracing performance, silent and efficient cooling, and a price of US$499 for the PlayStation 5.

Considering the huge amount of hype surrounding the PS5, it’s no surprise when shocking leaks and rumors start appearing online. The latest comes courtesy of 4chan, so naturally a good pinch of salt is required here. There are some interesting claims made in the post about the PS5’s design, features, price, and games. However, it’s not a complete PS5 fan’s dream post, as there are plenty of cons detailed as well.

As for the alleged cons, the PS5-related post states that third-party games will perform over 30% “better” on the Xbox Series X, with the PlayStation's unstable CPU and GPU clock rates being partially to blame for lagging behind its rival. Along with that bad news, apparently the PS5 design is not particularly special either, with the poster claiming that it is “ugly” and that the box is “huge”. It doesn’t seem like a good start for Sony’s next-gen console here…

But then the good PS5 news starts flooding out: 40% better ray-tracing performance than the Xbox Series X, quiet console operation, effective cooling solution, variable SSD speed but impressive I/O controller, and a “revolutionary” dashboard. Even the alleged price tag of US$499 isn’t bad news as the US$500 mark has frequently been the go-to estimate for the PS5’s price.

The rumors continue with the claim that the PS5 launch is still targeted for November 2020 and that the DualSense controller has terrific battery life and “great” haptics. It’s a considerable list of pros for the PS5, with the cons already being expected by most fans who have a good idea and acceptance of the Xbox Series X’s superior performance capability.

Of course, it could all be fake news as there are no source links, new images, or other clues included in the post that would point to absolute legitimacy. But it does give an intriguing insight into what could be expected from the PS5, and there would certainly be many fans pleased with the idea that Sony has at least implemented a cooling solution that backs the claim that the “console heat dissipation is amazing.”
