MSI Modern 14 to feature AMD Ryzen 4000 Renoir processors for as little as US$649
by Alex AldersonThe MSI Modern 14 B4M starts at US$649 and can be equipped with up to an AMD Ryzen 7 4700U. The device also has a 52 Wh battery, is 16.9 mm thick and weighs 1.3 kg.
MSI has quietly announced Ryzen 4000 Renoir versions of the Modern 14. Brought to our attention by @_rogame, it would seem that MSI is yet even to publish a press release for the Modern 14 B4M. Nonetheless, the Modern 14 B4M product page has been live for almost three weeks. Additionally, while @_rogame states the Modern 14 B4M is available with "up to R7 4800U", we cannot find evidence for this. On the contrary, a "Made For Gamers & Creators 2020 Q2 Brochure" that @9550pro tweeted last month states that there will be Ryzen 5 4500U and Ryzen 7 4700U versions of the Modern 14 B4M.
The Modern 14 B4M measures 319 x 220.2 x 16.9 mm and is 1.3 kg. Eventually available in Onyx Black and Bluestone, the Modern 14 B4M has a 14-inch FHD "IPS-level" panel, the peak brightness of which MSI has yet to announce. MSI also states that the device has two DDR4-3200 RAM slots, although EXcaliberPC and HIDevolution seem to think that it has one. Additionally, both retailers suggest that MSI will ship the Modern 14 B4M with DDR4-2666 RAM as standard, not DDR4-3200.
There is no dedicated GPU with the Modern 14 B4M, either. Moreover, MSI has included a microSD card reader, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, an HDMI 1.4 port and a USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port. Powering the device is a 52 Wh 3-cell battery, which is recharged via a 65 W DC-in charger.
Currently, MSI has not announced pricing or availability for the Modern 14 B4M. However, EXcaliberPC and HIDevolution have the Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 models available to pre-order for US$649 and US$749, respectively. Additionally, HIDevolution states that the Modern 14 B4M will be available from July.
