Randy Orton, who is currently in the midst of a legendary in-ring career to the levels where he can afford a plane (assuming he’s not doing the Bow Wow Challenge), has become a trending topic on Twitter for speaking out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

As the world continues to mourn the tragic death of George Floyd, who became the latest in an unsettling string of unarmed black men to be murdered by the police, riots have ensued as racial injustice continues to rear its ugly head.

Ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter, however unrest and racial tensions continue.

Orton is a fairly unlikely source of support for such a controversial topic like racial injustice. The contemporary version of Randy Orton (dating back to 2010) is largely viewed as a WWE lifer whose ability to toe the company line and avoid controversy is part of what has kept him in a cushy position atop the WWE roster as a name-brand star.

In addition to tweeting the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter, Orton also shared a “Justice for George” petition. As of this writing, the petition is on the verge of meeting, and exceeding, its required six million signatures. Several WWE Superstars have continued to speak out amid the George Floyd killing, including Sami Zayn, Naomi and former police officer Mustafa Ali.

In times of racial turmoil, where it’s so easy to make senseless killings about black vs. white, it’s important for public figures outside of the black race to also speak out against racial injustice. This will only facilitate the process of influencing the lawmakers, legislators and all parties necessary to help mitigate a lingering plague of police brutality.
