Man picks fight with father-in-law, stabs him
by Pragna L KrupaOn Monday, a man attacked his father-in-law and stabbed him in the back in Marathahalli. The victim alleged that his son-in-law had been harassing them by picking fights since the time their daughter gave birth to a baby girl.
Annayappa, 52, a resident of Bommanahalil, sustained a three-inch deep stab injury on his back and had to get 20 stitches. He said his daughter was married to Manjunatha, who had allegedly lied to them about his education at the time of marriage. He said, “Their family expected her to bear a male child who could carry their family’s name. Three months back, she delivered a baby girl and her husband and his family were not happy with it.”

He said, “We thought that it would be better if all the family members sit and talk. Around 9:30 pm, I, along with my two sons and my other son-in-law, went to their house to sit and talk. As soon as Srinivas, Manjunath’s elder brother, and his friends came in, they threatened to kill us. Manjunath grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed me in the back. I was bleeding profusely and taken to the nearby hospital.”
Marathahalli police have registered a case and have booked the accused Manjunath, his father, Narayanappa, his brother, Srinivasa and his friend, Shanthakumara under IPC section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by weapons or means), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). Further investigation is underway.
