A passenger travelling on an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Madurai has tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, IndiGo said that the asymptomatic passenger who travelled on flight 6E 7214 on May 27 was discovered to be Covid-19 positive during the mandatory testing at the quarantine facility in Madurai.

“The passenger observed all the precautionary measures including face mask, face shield and gloves. All our aircrafts are regularly sanitized as a standard operating procedure and the aircraft operating this flight was immediately disinfected as per protocol”, said the airlines.

“The operating crew has been home quarantined for 14 days and we are in the process of notifying the other passengers as per government guidelines, to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff, “the airline said.

Flight operations at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) -- like most of the other airports across the country -- started on May 25 after a gap of two months.

At the airport, contactless procedures and stringent operating procedures have been put in place to mitigate the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
