Shikabala prefers cancelling the current season
by Egypt Today staffCAIRO_29 May 2020: Zamalek captain, Mahmoud Abdelrazek known as Shikabala, believes that cancelling the current Egyptian league season is the best decision.
"Safety of football players is a priority and they are worried about their families if they got infected." Shikabala told Egyptian TV on Thursday.
Egyptian Football Association, EFA, announced on 14 March that all football-related activities, including fixtures of all Egyptian league divisions and age groups, are suspended amid the spread of coronavirus.
Zamalek captain added "In Europe, they have seven or eight rounds to finish the league but here in Egypt we are in a different situation as we still have a full round to finish the league."
Zamalek have a great season on the continental level as they won CAF Super Cup title after defeating Esperance, reigning CAF Champions League champions, 3-1.
Zamalek reached CAF Champions League semi-finals and they will face Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.
On the domestic level, Zamalek are suffering at the league as they are fourth in the table with 31 points and they are 18 points behind the league leaders Al Ahly.
Shikabala continued "I think we should wait for more time to return back. It is better to cancel this season and start a new season."
