2 Egyptian teachers die with coronavirus: Syndicate

CAIRO – 29 May 2020: The Egyptian Teachers Syndicate announced the death of another two teachers after they were infected with the novel coronavirus, raising the total number of COVID-19 deaths to seven.

On Thursday, Head of the Press Syndicate Diaa Rashwan said nine members of the syndicate have tested positive for the virus since March 24th, and two others died.

Four members have recovered from the novel virus, including a case that had been quarantined at home, Rashwan said.

The remaining three members are being treated now, including one who receives treatment at home, while others are being treated at specialized hospitals.

Rashwan said the syndicate responded to all the nine cases immediately after they called the syndicate and took all the required medical procedures toward them, including examination and treatment, in cooperation with the Health Ministry officials and other relevant institutions.

Also, the General Physical Therapy Syndicate has mourned the death of one of its senior members, the first death among its members due to the novel virus.

Abdel Nasser Hassan, head of the syndicate’s branch in Upper Egypt’s Luxor and the former head of Luxor General Hospital died after he tested positive for coronavirus a week earlier and was moved to the intensive care unit four days later after his condition deteriorated, Ahmed Ezat, a top official at the syndicate said.

Egypt recorded 1,127 new coronavirus cases Thursday, raising the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in Egypt to 20,793.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said in the daily briefing that 29 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 845.

As many as 154 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 5,359 so far, the spokesman said.

The number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and received negative results has reached 6,019, he added.
