Russia to keep self-isolation requirement in 14 regions

Russian authorities have decided to keep the requirement to self-isolate in effect in 14 of the country’s 85 regions at least by mid-June, while facial masks are mandatory throughout the country, Russian state news agency TASS reports.

By Thursday, May 28, a total of 379,051 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 150,993 patients having recovered from the disease. Russia’s latest data indicates 4,142 fatalities nationwide, which is a surprisingly low number if compared to the data in second worst-hit country in Europe, the UK.

In the UK, 267 240 people have been infected with COVID-19 and 37 460 have died, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.

At the same time, regional authorities also ease introduced restrictions, allowing going for walks and doing fitness, reopening parks and non-grocery retails.

A number of regions with relatively favourable epidemiological situation, including Crimea – a Ukrainian region annexed illegally by Russia –, the Kaliningrad and Murmansk Regions, the mandatory self-isolation regime were cancelled.

Throughout Russia, movement restrictions remain in place for people over 65 and risk groups and mask regime remains mandatory, it is required to prevent the spread of the infection, TASS reports.
