Premier League could resort to points system if the season does not end

by

The 20 clubs in the Premier League agreed on an alternative solution to end the season if the coronavirus eventually forces a definitive suspension. This is a point system that makes a rough estimate. It will be voted on next Thursday.

The Premier League set June 17 as the provisional return date for the return of the competition, which had to be temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But it is still not entirely certain that English teams will be able to play the remaining matches, so an alternative solution was also agreed at Thursday's meeting.

The 20 clubs of the English League agreed, in addition to the return of the competition, to implement a point system that makes a rough estimate of how the championship would end if it could not be completed in time and had to be cancelled definitively because of coronavirus.

This is assured by 'Mirror', which informs that the proposed measure will be voted next Thursday, although in principle it seems that there will be an agreement to implement it for the 92 matches that remain to be played.
