Octogenarian stays hungry with mentally-challanged son, daughter
by RAJESH BEHERAAt the twilight of age, when parents want their children would take care of them, an octogenarian person, here, was forced to shoulder the burden of his family members as his two children were insane.
Nrusingha Charan Behera of Ekalapur village under Kansar BadadaunduaGP of Mahakalapada block has not enough strength to stand straight on his own feet and has to depend on a lathi to walk, but circumstancescompelled him to collect bread and butter for him as well as for hismentally disabled children.
Nursingha's only source of income comes from his oldage pension of Rs700 and subsidised food grains that he gets from his insane son's ration card, to run the family.
According to Nrusingha, his wife died several years back. His only son later developed insanity whereas his daughter, who was married ,returned back to his family following rift with her. She developedmental sickness soon.
But she is yet to be enrolled either in NFSA or SFSA ration card. Nrusingha's mentally sick children are yet to avail the deformity certificate to get the benefits. Even his daughter does not haveAadhaar card too. All are staying in a ramshackle thatched hut. When contacted, District Social Security Officer Pravas Chandra Dasstated that the matter had come to his notice and steps had been takento provide all the Government helps to the ill fated family.
