The Great British Sewing Bee sees another contestant pack their bags

The Great British Sewing Bee bid farewell to another contestant tonight after a tense recycling round.

That’s right, it was a close call but after much deliberation Patrick Grant and Esme Young decided to send home Peter.

The theme this week was reduce, reuse, recycle seeing the whole haberdashery replaced with a number of second hand items.

Esme set the first pattern challenge, seeing the sewers tasked with producing a men’s bomber jacket.

Peter landed in seventh place while Nicole wound up in sixth – forcing them to give it their all in the next round.

But it wasn’t easy, as they had to transform a number of laundry bags into a garment of their choice for either a man or woman.

After a tough round, it was Matt who came in last place with Mark following close behind.

But two of the bottom four managed to redeem themselves in the finale where they had to make a dress out of old jumpers.

Esme joked that she had a row with Patrick over which item should be announced as garment of the week.

And as they couldn’t come to an agreement, both Matt and Nicole took the crown.

However, it was sad news for Peter, who was sent off to pack his bags.

After finding out he was leaving the competition, he told the cameras: ‘This has been one of the best things I have done in my life this is what I want to do I want to make clothes.

‘Anything less is unacceptable anymore. So that’s what I’m going to go and do – or try to anyway!’

And Patrick was saddened by the decision, adding: ‘Peter has brought so much brilliant imagination and so much flare to the sewing room, it is very sad to let him go.’

The Great British Sewing Bee continues next Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
