One dies, seven survive as boat capsizes in Hoima

One person drowned in Lake Albert while seven were rescued after a canoe boat they were sailing in capsized near Runga landing site in Kigorobya sub-county, Hoima district on Tuesday.
The boat was reportedly carrying eight passengers from Kakoma landing site, heading to Walukuba landing site in Buliisa district following an enforcement by joint security forces to vacate from illegal landing sites.
The deceased has been identified as Owonda Cwinyai aged 20.

Albertine region police spokesperson Julius Hakiza said the sailors had overloaded the canoe with household items.
This accident comes just a day after eight people died in a boat accident near Ususa landing site in Kyangwali sub-county, Kikuube district.
Meanwhile, three bodies out of eight people who died near Ususa have been retrieved.
The bodies were of 56-year-old Piwegi Abyola, 27-year-old Ajaru Owonda and one only identified as Juma, all residents of Ususa landing site.
