Piers Morgan backs Emily Maitlis in Cummings 'impartiality row' against 'BBC weasels'
by James Brinsford, https://www.facebook.com/james.brinsfordPiers Morgan has hit out at BBC managers and the decision to haul up Emily Maitlis for breaching their 'impartiality standards'.
The 56-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter has backed Emily after she was replaced by Katie Razzall for Wednesday's edition of Newsnight.
The BBC had posted a statement on Twitter earlier in the day in which it confirmed it had reviewed the show and 'reminded staff of the guidelines'.
Emily was pulled up for discussing the Dominic Cummings lockdown row and opened the programme on Tuesday by saying the Prime Minister's chief adviser had "broken the rules" and "the country can see that, and it's shocked the Government cannot".
She continued to say: "The longer ministers and the prime minister tell us he worked with them, the more angry the response to this scandal is likely to be."
The Beeb has said that the monologue "did not meet our standards of due impartiality".
This has incensed Piers, who is taking a week off from the ITV breakfast show after a number of controversies involving interviews with Government ministers.
Piers has been fierce in his condemnation of the way the coronavirus lockdown has been handled and this has led to an 'unofficial ban' on ministerial representation on GMB.
Now he has turned his attentions to the BBC, slamming Lord Hall, who is the Director-General, and said that his condemnation of Emily Maitlis is the reason why he would never work for them.
In a tweet on Wednesday evening, Piers let rip and called out BBC management as "weasels."
Piers wrote: "So, Lord Hall said nothing as the Govt banned ministers from @BBCNewsnight for months, but humiliates @maitlis for speaking the truth about lying Cummings?"
He added: "This is why I’d never work for the BBC - great journalists, cowardly weasel management."
Emily Maitlis had received plenty of support from colleagues and the public for her thoughts on Dominic Cummings' flaunting of the lockdown rules that he helped set out.
