Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard has revealed the set is haunted by the ghost of Deirdre Barlow.

The 63-year-old, who plays Liz McDonald on the ITV soap, says she has sensed Deirdre actress Anne Kirkbride is still around.

Anne died in 2015 after a short battle with breast cancer, aged just 60.

She had starred on Corrie for more than 40 years, and her presence still remains, with Beverley certain she visits the set to check up on everyone.

"I had been doing quite a lot of filming at the Barlow’s set and it’s a weird feeling," said Beverley.

"She was there in spirit, most definitely, her photos are on the shelves and you can’t go on the set without saying, ‘Oh, I hope you’re here with me’.

"I know she visits us."

Beverley is leaving Corrie this summer after more than 30 years, and she revealed what her parting wish was.

She begged producers to make her dressing room a shrine to Anne, and made them vow not to remove Anne's name plaque which is in the dressing room the two actresses once shared.

She added: "I have a big photo of her in my dressing room, and both our names are on the dressing room.

"I’m just hoping that even when I have gone, they both stay there."

Beverley is not the only cast member to say they have sensed Anne's ghost - Bill Roache, who played her on-screen husband, has even claimed to talk to her.

Bill, who stars as Ken Barlow, says Anne is still with him on the set every day - and they even chat.

Bill, 86, said Anne's presence on the set is very strong, particularly at the home their characters shared together.

He said: "Even now, I can still feel her around, it's very powerful, particularly at the Barlows', where Ken and Deirdre were called up to do a lot of shouting."

He added to the Radio Times : "But I know all is well for her. And you get to the point where you can think about the happy times and enjoy them.
