Tom Brady’s big takeaways from The Match: wear roomier pants

by

Tom Brady has three NFL MVPs, six Super Bowl rings and a nine-point golfing lesson.

After he teamed with Phil Mickelson but lost to the pairing of Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods in an event Sunday that raised $20 million for charities providing coronavirus relief, Brady listed his nine “lessons” on his Instagram account.

“I had a lot of fun,” Brady wrote, “and grateful to be part of an event that raised a lot of money for COVID relief.”

Some of the highlights: He was reminded never to discount his longtime big-game rival Manning, he will wear loose-fitting pants to avoid splitting them again in front of a television audience, he likes the concussion-free environment of a golf course and he is thankful for all the supporters who contributed to The Match’s success.

Brady, 42, even sprinkled in some emojis – including a football, a thumbs up, a laughing face, an angry face – to his message, further proving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ version of this future Hall of Famer has more personality than ever revealed during 20 years with the tightly wound New England Patriots.

Here is the list in Brady’s words:

1. Amazing what happens when groups of people come together for the common good. 2. Peyton is still as clutch as ever. 3. I did not escape the inclement weather…heavy stuff…ALL DAY. 4. I shouldn’t wear the same pants to golf that I wear to church. 5. As great as Phil Mickelson is as a golfer, he is a better man, coach and teammate and potentially has the best calves on the PGA Tour. 6. I really enjoy golf…at halftime of football games we get checked for concussions, in golf, you get refreshments. 7. It was nice to be the young guy again. 8. Tiger Woods was a great host and champion, and I was especially thankful he missed that putt on the 7th hole…had he made it, I would have just went home. 9. I’m sticking to my day job

No. 9 certainly seems like a good idea.
