Elderly man stabbed and woman fighting for life after ‘domestic incident’ at London home
by Ellie CambridgeA WOMAN is fighting for her life and an elderly man was stabbed after a 'domestic incident' at a home in North London.
The pair, both thought to be in their 70s, were rushed to hospital from the property in Southgate Road, Islington, just before 9pm.
The woman was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries but the man is expected to recover after suffering stab wounds.
It was initially thought the female pensioner had also been stabbed when she was found unresponsive, but police later confirmed she had not suffered knife wounds.
Officers were scrambled to the home near Haggerston station after being alerted by the London Ambulance Service.
A police statement this evening said: "There have been no arrests.
"At this very early stage, the matter is being treated as a domestic incident with no other persons believed involved.
"However extensive inquiries into the circumstances continue.
"A crime scene & road closures are in place."
Worries residents reported seeing an air ambulance land nearby as emergency services raced to the horrifying scene.
Striking pictures posted online showed dozens of police cars and ambulances, with officers going door-to-door as they probe what happened.
