Cleveland Browns Offered Jadeveon Clowney The ‘Most Money’ He’s Seen In Free Agency

by

The Cleveland Browns continue to be the rumored favorites to sign free agent defender Jadeveon Clowney this summer, but everything hinges on the former No. 1 overall pick’s willingness to bet on himself and head out to Cleveland for one season and try again next offseason to get his big deal.

Well, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated on Wednesday that the Browns are so serious about getting Clowney that they’ve actually offered him “the most money” this offseason. Only problem here is that if Clowney actually wanted the deal, he would be on the Browns roster right now.

Clowney was reportedly seeking $20 million per season on the market. But a new deal is now estimated somewhere in the $13-15 million range with several teams reportedly reaching out about his services.

“He’s still in a situation where he may need to sign a one-year, prove-it deal. But I think the Browns are interested in him longer term than that,” Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson said on the Pat McAfee Show. “And if he’s going to sign a reduced deal, I’m telling you right now that’s a one-year deal. He’s not going to take some contract where someone is going to pay him $14 million per year.”

Clowney has never had a double-digit sack season and only notched three in 13 games with the Seahawks.

“When are you going to have the 12-to-14 sack season? You haven’t done that. We’re not going to pay you like you’re a 15-sack guy. You want $20 million (a year), that’s a 12-to-15 sack guy every single year.”

Last season, Clowney recorded 31 tackles, three sacks, an interception, two defensive touchdowns, four forced fumbles, two recoveries and three pass defenses.
