Communist Nepal PM’s Plan To Claim Indian Territories As Part Of New Map Suffers A Setback: Report
by Swarajya StaffNepal’s Communist Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s plan to claim Indian territories as part of a new Nepal map has hit a roadblock after he failed to build consensus among the country’s political parties, Hindustan Times has reported.
The new map sought to incorporate the territories of Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh as part of a new wave of diplomatic offensive against India.
The report claims that many political parties in Nepal refused to back Oli’s proposal and saw through his plan of invoking “Gorkha nationalism for personal gains”.
The main opposition party Nepali Congress has made it clear that it will only reveal its stance on this matter after the Central Working Committee has taken a decision.
Oli who is believed to be pandering to China via such measures had also attacked India by alleging that the Indian strain of Coronavirus was more virulent than its Chinese counterpart and as a result responsible for community transmission in Nepal.
After Indian Army Chief M M Naravane had hinted at Chinese influence behind Nepal’s aggressive stance, Oli reportedly asked Nepal’s Army Chief to give a public rebuttal but the latter declined.
