Gunna Calls Young Thug The Best Rapper Alive
by Chris MenchGunna is signed to Young Thug’s YSL label and credits the Atlanta rapper with helping him find his voice in hip-hop. But his love for Thugger goes even deeper, as evidenced by their recent conversation in Interview Magazine. During the interview, Thug asked Gunna who he thinks is the “best rapper alive,” and Gunna responded by pointing directly at his label boss.
“It would have to be you, Slime, on god,” Gunna said. “You make the most songs out of everybody. Anybody can rap and make songs but you’re making real songs. It’s hard to do that. I understand it because I make songs, too.”
Young Thug is known for being a prolific artist. He recently estimated that he’s recorded over 15,000 songs since the start of his career, and he has over a dozen projects to his name.
He’s also drawn a lot of credit as a major influence on the current generation of rappers. 21 Savage recently said that Thugger and Future should get “a writing credit for 90 percent of rap,” while Tory Lanez said Thug is responsible for “75 percent of the rap style that’s going on right now.”
In a recent For the Record interview with Genius, Gunna explained the current status of his friendship with Young Thug. “That’s my brother,“ he said. "We’re even closer now that I’ve grown because he’s so proud. For somebody to be around him so close to just grow and just get to a great level.”
