The One Show viewers freak out over Bob Geldof's overgrown hair and beard in loc
by Katie StoreyThe One Show saw Sir Bob Geldof’s appearance overshadowed by his overgrown hair and beard, as viewers couldn’t resist poking fun on the star’s lockdown look.
The 68-year-old stopped by the show via video call to discuss his new documentary Citizens of Boomtown: The Story of the Boomtown, but it was his wild hair and beard that became topic of conversation on Twitter.
Fans were seen joking that Bob looked like he’d been left in lockdown ‘for years’, with one viewer tweeting: ‘Has Bob Geldof been on Lockdown since 2001?? #TheOneShow.’
His look certainly drew attention, with even hosts Alex Jones and Angelica Bell commenting on Bob’s shaggier look.
Linking in his interview from a segment on Chris Packham’s Spring Watch, Alex teased: ‘From a man looking for wildlife, to a man looking more and more wild – honestly – as lockdown goes on, it’s Sir Bob Geldof.’
Angelica then chimed in: ‘Looking at you, we’re assuming you’ve grown your hair and grown your beard…’
‘Just in preparation for you guys, another spectacle for the nation, growing wild like you do. This is my contribution to the country at a standstill… a beard.’
Hey, at least Bob can joke about it because plenty of viewers at home were.
One person commented: ‘Bob Geldof been in lockdown since 1984 #theoneshow.’
‘We all know Bob Geldof doesn’t like Mondays. He also doesn’t like hairbrushes either. @MissAlexJones @BBCTheOneShow #bobgeldof,’ joked another.
And the hairbrush jokes seemed to be a reoccurring theme, with one fan tweeting: ‘You’d think Bob Geldof would brush his hair before going on tv.’
‘Sir Bob Geldof made an effort for The One Show I see,’ teased one viewer.
On the show, Bob discussed his new documentary delving into the history of his rock band the Boomtown Rats, who got back together just before lockdown to make new music for the first time in 36 years.
Although, when talking about the song Trash Glam Baby, Bob joked that radio stations won’t ‘bl**dy play’ the track.
