Russell lacks social aspect in F1: "There was more of that there"

by

George Russell is good friends with Charles Leclerc and Alexander Albon, but all three men have been busy in recent years with only one goal: achieving Formula 1. This has been successful, but at the same time it also ensures that there is little time left to spend together. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak there is more time to meet (online).

"That side of the story is awesome." Russell puts it in the ESPN podcast. Already during karting the three drivers were able to get through one door with each other. "We've always been friends, but when you meet each other as competitors on the track, you're fully focused on your work. We're also so busy during race weekends that you never really see each other.

The Williams driver did go out to dinner with Albon on GP weekends last year. "But that's not often because we're so focused. So this brings us back to our karting days. I remember we never had a debriefing with the team after the finish, we ran away with our friends and played some games on the iPhone or played with some cardboard boxes or something like that", remembers the Brit.

Russell lacks social aspect

Russell does not only race online with Norris and Leclerc, but they also sometimes play Call of Duty, for example. Normally this is absolutely unthinkable, but because of the corona crisis the Formula 1 drivers are also sitting at home and there is time "It is definitely a part of motorsport that I miss, because no matter how serious it is in karting, the social element is more present there", the 22 year old driver concludes.
