Manchester City are leading the race for the latest exciting youth prospect to emerge from Ajax, versatile forward Sontje Hansen, according to reports.

While football has been brought to a standstill in recent months due to the coronavirus pandemic, City have still been active in their search of promising talent from across the world to add to their ever-growing collection.

It was confirmed in April that Peruvian defender Kluiverth Aguilar had been signed from Alianza Lima, though he won't make the switch to the Etihad until he turns 18 next year.

Now the Blues have seemingly set their eyes on another target as Goal reports that the talented Hansen is on their radar.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a brilliant 2019 representing his country, as he helped the Netherlands retain the Under-17 European Championship in the summer before winning the Golden Boot in the Under-17 World Cup later in the year with six goals, though the Oranje crashed out in the semi-finals.

There has also been steady progress at club level, too, as Hansen made his first-team debut for Ajax towards the end of 2019, making two brief cameos as a substitute.

While injuries and the subsequent cancelling of the Eredivisie have limited his game time in 2020, Hansen is still highly regarded, with Juventus, RB Leipzig and Inter all said to be interested.

But it's City who are reportedly leading the way for the player, who could be available for as little as £6million as he has only a year remaining on his contract.

Meanwhile, City youngster Claudio Gomes could be set for a return to Ligue 1.

Much was expected of the defensive midfielder when he was signed on a free from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 but, despite showing potential in pre-season, the teenager has never been given a chance in the first team.

Gomes has spent this season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, playing for their youth side, and is reportedly set to leave on loan again next season.

RMC Sport , via Sportwitness, claim that Lille, Rennes and another unnamed club have started negotiations over a potential loan with an option to buy.
