SpaceX launch postponed due to bad weather

by

Just minutes away from take off, and SpaceX has had to call of its historic launch.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s company was set to become the first private company to launch astronauts into space, but weather has forced them to abort the mission.

It was going to be the first spaceflight of NASA astronauts from US soil in nine years.

US President had even flown into Florida to watch the take off.

However, with just 16 minutes until take off, the mission had to be called off due to weather conditions.

It’s understood that the launch was breaking just one weather rule, which may have cleared post the take off time.

But today’s launch was an ‘instantaneous launch’, meaning it could only take place at 4.33pm local time. And the weather would not have cleared by then.

The next launch window will occur at 3.22pm (local time) on Saturday afternoon (5.22am AEST Sunday morning).

The spacecraft is now in the process of unloading fuel.

Almost two million people had tuned into NASA’s Youtube livestream of the launch this morning.
