Windows 10 May 2020 Update available for download, features WDDM 2.7 & DirectX 12 Ultimate support
by John PapadopoulosMicrosoft has released the highly anticipated May 2020 Update for Windows 10. This Update brings support for both WDDM 2.7 and DirectX 12 Ultimate. Moreover, it packs some Xbox Game Bar improvements.
According to the release notes, this update tweaks Windows Search in order to reduce the stress on your system, Disk and CPU usage. Thus, users will notice faster performance on devices with older hard disk drives (HDDs). On the other hand, those using an SSD will not notice any major performance improvements.
As said, the May 2020 Update includes support for new DirectX 12 features including Raytracing tier 1.1, Mesh Shader, and Sampler Feedback. Furthermore, multi-monitor support will get some improvements, thanks to the Windows Driver Display Module (WDDM 2.7) support.
As Microsoft stated:
“WDDM 2.7 improves multi-monitor refresh rates, which should addresses stuttering when you switch between monitors with different refresh rates. Microsoft is also adding hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling to improve video playback performance, reduce latency and improve FPS for some games.”
Moreover, this update adds a GPU temperature reading on Task Manager. It also allows Xbox Game Bar support for third-party widgets.
Lastly, the May 2020 Update introduces a cloud recovery option for Windows 10. As such, users will be able to recover their desktop or laptop from a corrupted installation of the operating system much easier.
