Pokémon GO Fest 2020 Goes Virtual To Include All Global Players

Pokémon GO Fest 2020 is still happening but not in the way that you'd think. Unlike many of this year's other events, some of them bigger and some of them smaller, Pokémon GO Fest 2020 will forge on ahead.

Like any events that did choose to continue though, the event will be virtual and not in person. Niantic officially made the announcement about the news this morning. And there are both downsides and upsides to this decision.

First, players that have gone to past versions of this event won't get to have that kind of experience this year. The good news though is that it opens things up to many more players. And that's really a win for the larger player base.

Pokémon GO Fest 2020 Begins On July 25

If you're eager to attend this year's Go Fest then you're in luck. Because you won't need to physically travel anywhere to participate. Which is probably a wonderful thing if you particularly have trouble doing so.

Not everyone has the ability to travel to whatever city the event is going to be in. And this year Niantic is giving those individuals a way around that.

The event will start on July 25 and will continue through July 26. So it'll last for two days. If you have a ticket you can also now go both days instead of having to pick a day to attend. As for the times, Niantic hasn't confirmed when exactly everything will kick off each day.

It will be sharing more information though through the Pokémon GO blog, so keep your eyes peeled.

This will be a special experience for trainers

There's bound to be many likenesses between this year and past years. But by the sounds of it there will also be some unique and special experiences to be had.

Niantic hasn't really elaborated on this yet. What it did say is that the weekend will be filled with special Pokémon encounters, plenty of bonuses, and special research. Players will also have new and unique ways of connecting with other trainers during the event.

So whatever Niantic has planned for this particular feature, it sounds like it might be limited to the virtual format that this year's event is taking place in. Though it could always choose to implement into the game for good if players use it enough and like it.

There's still about two months before the event begins later this Summer. So if you don't see information here yet that you're curious about, it'll definitely be showing up sometime before everything kicks off.
