Coronation Street viewers were left heartbroken at scenes tonight, as it was revealed little Oliver might have brain damage.
Parents Steve McDonald and Leanne Battersby have been struggling as their little boy has fallen ill with seizures as the result of an unknown illness.
Oliver's mum, Leanne, was in tears as she told concerned family members: "They think he might have brain damage, permanent brain damage."
Later, a doctor confirmed Steve and Leanne's worst fears but Leanne refused to accept the news.
The doctor said though it was "very difficult to make predictions at this stage" but it does appear his latest seizure may have caused some brain damage.
The doctor explained he may have problems recognising faces and picking objects up.
She added: "You need to prepare yourselves for the possibility he might not get back to where he was developmentally."
Leanne concluded the doctors didn't know anything for certain and marched out of the room, but Steve pressed for more information and the doctor confirmed there was a high chance Oliver's brain damage would be permanent.
Later, Oliver was seen to recognise his mum, much to Leanne and Steve's delight.
Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
Ryan said: "Omg this is breaking my heart. I can't believe that Oliver might have permanent brain damage."
One fan said: "Poor, poor Oliver".
