NYC doctor who treated John Paul II, Reagan accused of sexually abusing patient
by Ben FeuerherdA noted New York City doctor who reportedly treated a pope and president allegedly sexually assaulted a patient after romantically pursuing her for years, according to a federal lawsuit.
The woman who filed the suit under the alias Jane Doe said Dr. Kevin Cahill began pursuing her — despite an age difference of more than 50 years — after he first treated her for a parasitic infection when she was 19 years old in 2009.
Cahill, who is now 84, had a distinguished career after growing up in a first-generation Irish family in the Bronx, once treating Pope John Paul II and Ronald Reagan, according to his bio published in Irish America.
After Cahill treated the woman in 2009, he began an “infatuation” with her and started pursuing her romantically by sending her hundreds of communications by phone, email and post, according to the suit, which was filed in Manhattan federal court last week.
The woman rejected his advances for years, but reached out to him in 2018 after experiencing pain around her menstrual cycle, according to the lawsuit.
The alleged perv set up a free-of-charge surgery with the woman and another doctor, but first told her she needed to visit his office for an exam in January 2019, according to the suit.

During the visit, Cahill penetrated her with his finger after telling her he needed to check her for a parasite infection, according to the suit.
Months later, Cahill told the woman she would have to see him again for a “pre-operative” exam — despite having already had one, the suit states.
During the visit, Cahill allegedly walked into the room before the woman was fully dressed in a hospital gown, then suddenly groped her breasts, the suit states.
He then ripped her gown and continued to fondle her for more than a minute until forcibly kissing her, according to the suit.
When she pulled away, Cahill told her he loved her and tried to kiss her again.
After the abuse, he then continued obsessively trying to contact her again — despite her making it abundantly clear she wanted no sexual relationship with him.
The woman is seeking a jury trial and unspecified damages. Cahill did not respond to request for comment.
