Iran’s Covid-19 Recovered Patients Surpass 111,000, New Cases Top

The number of recovered patients from the novel coronavirus in Iran crossed 111,000 as of Wednesday, a health official announced.
Recovered patients surged by more than 2,000 to 111,176 on Wednesday, Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour was quoted as saying by ISNA. 
Iran is one of the leading nations in terms of recovery rates.
During his daily briefing, Jahanpour also updated the public on new infections and deaths.
“Confirmed coronavirus cases in Iran rose by 2,082,” he said.
Following Tuesday’s drop in infections, the numbers once again rose above the 2,000 mark.
Jahanpour added, “Out of the new cases, 412 were hospitalized and 1,668 were in close contact with another patient.”
The new daily cases take Iran’s national tally to 141,591.
Overnight fatalities reached 56, bringing the death toll to 7,564. The number of patients under intensive care declined on Wednesday to 2,551.
Iran has so far carried out more than 856,000 diagnostic tests to detect infections.
Nader Tavakkoli, deputy for treatment affairs in Tehran’s coronavirus taskforce, said on Wednesday the tally of patients in serious condition has declined dramatically.
“The public should not refrain from visiting hospitals out of fear of catching the coronavirus since the number of patients in critical condition in the province of Tehran has dropped significantly,” he said.
Tavakkoli noted that Tehran Province has allocated half of all hospital beds to Covid-19 patients, while the patients never even filled one-fourth of the capacity.

  Rise in Metro Trips Expected Ahead of the reopening of all workplaces on Saturday, Tehran Metro CEO Farnoush Nobakht said on Wednesday that the company expects a surge in inner-city travels via subway. Nobakht said, “We hope the public will cooperate in a way that we are not forced to ban the entry of passengers not wearing masks.” According to CEO, the transit system currently carries 800,000 passengers per day but the number is expected to rise starting Saturday, noting that it has the capacity to transport 1.9 million passengers daily. The government of President Hassan Rouhani lifted all restrictions on businesses earlier this week, mandating the return of all workers starting next Saturday. The measure is part of a bigger scheme to revive economic activities while bolstering health inspections and screenings. Tehran Metro has set up sites in every subway station for the sale of facemasks, although wearing masks is not yet compulsory. Previous data showed that public transport accounts for 25% of virus transmissions in Iran. The number of patients, who have contracted the coronavirus around the world, exceeded 5.7 million on Wednesday. Deaths caused by the infectious disease surged to 353,000. More than 2.4 million have recovered from the illness. The World Health Organization announced that the United States has become the new epicenter of Covid-19 with 1.7 million infections. The US is followed by Brazil, Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom.
