Reported Liverpool target Thomas Meunier is clearly a fan of Jurgen Klopp’s tactics
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the soon-to-be free agent.
by Mathew NashLiverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Belgium international right-back Thomas Meunier this summer, according to Le10 Sport.
The PSG star is out of contract next month and has been linked with moves across Europe and the Premier League.
But Liverpool are now keen on bringing in the player as a potential back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Meunier, who scored against Liverpool in a 2018 Champions League tie at Anfield, would clearly be open to the idea of joining the club, based on his previous comments about the team’s play under Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking to RMC Sport in September that year, the Belgian defender waved lyrical about the way Liverpool were playing under Jurgen Klopp.
“We (PSG) should follow Liverpool’s example.
“They play simply, quickly, with lots of intensity and overlaps. It comes in waves, it never stops and the opponent is completely cornered.
“With our qualities, we can vary play, we have the players and the technical quality to do so.”
Of course, Liverpool went on to win the Champions League that season, after emerging from the Group Stages with PSG and ahead of Italian side Napoli.
Now, it appears that Liverpool could be willing to offer the 28-year-old a chance to come and play that football on a weekly basis under the tutelage of the German coach at the advent of his career.
Whilst he may have to settle for a place as Alexander-Arnold’s back-up, it clearly seems as though he is an admirer of the current Liverpool team and would relish this opportunity.
