Gabrielle Union Talks Julianne Hough Doing Blackface And More After Dramatic AGT Exit

by

During a new interview for Variety, Gabrielle Union opened up about her leaving America’s Got Talent and all the drama that surrounded her exit! Furthermore, she also mentioned Julianne Hough doing blackface in the past and shared her opinion on it!

As you might know, Gabrielle has been pretty vocal about the toxic environment on the set of AGT.

However, that whole thing ended up reflecting on Julianne Hough’s ‘unfortunate incident’ that took place back in 2013!

During the chat with the news outlet, Gabrielle made it very clear that she was not happy at all about the show allowing a racially charged audition to happen.

‘At the very beginning of his act, he put on black gloves to [represent] a black performer,’ she mentioned.

The star was bothered by the fact that the act even made it to the stage after being labeled as problematic!

But that was not all! AGT had also hired someone previously involved in a blackface scandal and that is, of course, Julianne Hough!

You might remember that, back in 2013, Julianne dressed up as the character of Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren from Orange Is the New Black for Halloween and she did not hesitate to darken her skin to better embody the character.

‘I’m a part of a show that hired one of my co-workers who had an unfortunate incident doing blackface,’ Gabrielle noted. ‘I’d like to trust her word that she learned her lesson, and she has educated herself amid the consequences that she faced and is hopefully a better person. But you’d think that perhaps the show and NBC might be more conscientious in exposing that, and it’d be taken seriously. I took it seriously.’

Both Gabrielle and Julianne were fired from the show back in November after being judges for only one year!

Not too long after, reports that Gabrielle was repeatedly told her hairstyles were ‘too black’ on set, appeared.

Furthermore, another racist problem, this time targeting the Asian community, was exposed in the form of guest judge Jay Leno making jokes about Asians.
