Ajax provide Chelsea and Arsenal with bargain Nicolas Tagliafico asking price

by

Ajax have set their asking price for Nicolas Tagliafico at just £22.4m this summer, which will tempt both Arsenal and Chelsea into making a move, having already shown an interest in the full-back.

The 27-year-old has impressed since arriving at Ajax in January 2018, becoming a key figure in the team which reached the Champions League semi-final last season.

He has been linked with a move to the Premier League since last summer, but no club made the plunge to make a bid either before the season or in January.

However, according to the Telegraph, Ajax have now made it clear that they are willing to accept just £22.4m for the Argentina international, which may well tempt his suitors to make a move.

The left-back is under contract at Ajax until 2022, but he has openly spoken about his desire to move to a bigger club, specifically in the Premier League.

‘Ajax it’s a great club, but as a player of course you dream of playing in the biggest leagues and the Premier League is right now the most competitive one, a bit above La Liga and Serie A,’ he told Argentina’s Radio Continental earlier this month.

Arsenal are unlikely to follow up on their previous interest in Tagliafico, after signing Kieran Tierney last summer, and with Sead Kolasinac and Bukayo Saka in reserve.

However, Chelsea are much more likely to come in for the Ajax man, with Lampard looking for a new first-choice left-back, having shown a lack of faith in both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.

Emerson has been linked with a return to Serie A this summer, while Alonso could also be allowed to leave.

Ben Chilwell has been viewed as the number one target at left-back, but Leicester could be looking for anywhere between £40 and £80m for the England international, making Tagliafico a much more affordable option.
