Love Island doughnut maker expanding into Chesterfield

They've even whipped up orders for Royalty

A Derbyshire doughnut business that's sizzled up orders for Love Island contestants and royalty is moving into Chesterfield.

Project D which has over 24,000 followers on Instagram, is expanding out of Derby and into the north of the county.

The start-up says it's created doughnuts for a Love Island after party, London Fashion Week and even for staff and residents at Windsor Castle.

Now the company, which changes the flavours of its doughnuts every week and also offers a vegan range, has launched a delivery service to doorsteps across the North Derbyshire town.

When lockdown began the company furloughed its staff, however, after changing their business model to a home delivery service, they ended up bringing staff back.

Project D’s co-owner Jacob Watts said: “Since lockdown began, we have been inundated with requests for doughnuts – I think that now, more than ever before, people need a sweet treat to cheer them up.

“We were getting a huge number of requests from people living in Chesterfield asking us to start delivering in their area, so we decided to head up the A38.

“We’re thrilled with the response we are getting and our doughnuts seem to be as popular in the north of the county as they have been nearer to home.

“It’s very exciting for us as a business and when lockdown is over we will look at setting up a more permanent home in the town centre.”

Project D has only been in business for a year and began by selling doughnuts at food events and festivals across the Midlands.

Among the company’s most popular creations is the Homer, a ring doughnut with pink icing and sprinkles; the Biscoff with a caramel base and blended Lotus Biscoff crumb; and the Red Velvet, a white chocolate base, dipped in red velvet cake with lashings of white chocolate.
