by

It was great while it lasted, but it looks as though Matt Damon and his family are on their way back to America.

But there was one place that got a special farewell from the Hollywood star, as Damon had become a regular customer of Dalkey's Country Bake store.

The bakery posted a photo to their Facebook page of Matt with the caption: "Our last visit from Matt and his family for a while. Safe travels! Thanks for bringing some excitement to Dalkey during this pandemic!"

One user in the comments thanked the famous actor for putting "Dalkey on the world map" while others wished him and his family a safe journey home.

Damon was in Ireland to shoot scenes for an upcoming movie, "The Last Duel", directed by Ridley Scott, when the lockdown started.

Choosing not to catch a flight home to the US, Damon chose to stay in Dalkey woth his family and settle into the community.

Matt's photo by the sea in Dalkey went viral

They had reportedly been renting out Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine's bachelor pad to wait out the Covid-19 pandemic.

A photo of Damon that had gone viral of him in a baseball cap holding a SuperValu bag attracted the attention of the New York Times.

However, locals in the area decided to protect Damon from any reporters who had questions as to why he chose the Dublin suburb to settle in.

Damon recently went onto radio station Spin 1038 to talk about what it was like staying in Ireland during the pandemic, and also shocked schoolgirls in the Loreto Abbey Dalkey by congratulating their graduation class for this year.
