Liverpool fans react as Newcastle reportedly want Xherdan Shaqiri
by Will ButcherNewcastle United are reportedly looking to sign Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri this summer with the player seemingly surplus to requirements after a difficult 2019-20 campaign – and Reds fans think he should move to Tyneside.
The 28-year-old attacker has been sidelined for much of the current season due to a number of injuries – preventing him from playing more than just 10 times. Shaqiri has a contract at Liverpool until 2023.
Indeed, the Swiss ace only moved to Anfield from Stoke in the summer of 2018. Just two years later and The Daily Mail claim Liverpool will not stand in the two-time Champions League winner’s way, if he wants to leave.
The report from Dominic King claims that Shaqiri is keen on a move to Newcastle if a takeover goes through. With the summer window approaching and Liverpool likely to sell to raise funds for incoming transfers, Shaqiri will fall victim.
Shaqiri’s stats in England are good. He has netted 18 goals in 114 Premier League games, but also laid on an impressive 22 assists. That means he has a hand in a goal less than every three games – only finishing 90 minutes 50 times in those 114 games.
Liverpool fans have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Newcastle want to sign Shaqiri in the coming months, and many Reds supporters feel a move to Newcastle would be a good deal for Shaqiri.
