A political group based in the FCT, Abuja, Obaseki Mandate Forum, has reportedly obtained nomination forms for the re-election of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state.
The Nation reports that the group's chairman, Nathaniel Momoh, obtained the form on Wednesday, May 27, from the party’s national secretariat on behalf of Governor Obaseki.
Momoh said the forum joined forces with people from Edo state to buy the nomination and expression of interest form for the governor.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the re-election bid of Governor Obaseki might have hit a brick wall as Pastor Ize-Iyamu, his prominent rival, emerged the party's consensus candidate for the next gubernatorial election in the state.
Ize-Iyamu, a former secretary to Edo state government, emerged the candidate of the party on the night of Tuesday, May 26, in Abuja through a consensus arrangement.
Legit.ng gathered that Ize-Iyamu, a pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), was presented by chairman of the screening committee, Senator Francis Alimikhena.

In his reaction, Governor Obaseki declared that he was not desperate about his re-election for the second term in office.
He said the next gubernatorial election in the state was not a priority for him now.
The Edo governor noted that he was more concerned about keeping the people of the state alive especially now that COVID-19 cases are rising.
In another report, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that it would work towards the full introduction of electronic voting in major elections, starting from 2021.
The INEC said this in its new policy on conducting elections released amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Legit.ng gathered that there have been calls for electronic voting over the years but some concerns, including the fear of cybercrime, hampered the process.
An electoral act amendment bill seeking to make e-voting compulsory in elections, however, passed second reading at the Senate in November.

The electoral umpire said in the new policy that it would not only pilot the use of e-voting machines at the earliest possible time after the forthcoming Edo and Ondo governorship elections but would also “work towards the full introduction of electronic voting in major elections starting from 2021.”
The commission added that it would regularly clean up the biometric register of voters while continuous voter registration is suspended “for the time being to prevent the health risks associated with it in the context of COVID-19.”
