After the critical and box office failure of Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2017, Zack Snyder fans around the world campaigned to have Zack Snyder’s actual version of Justice League released by Warner Bros. Pictures. And now the Zack Snyder fans are getting their wish: announced earlier this month, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will arrive exclusively to HBO Max in 2021.

By all accounts, Zack Snyder’s “cut” of Justice League was more of a pipe dream than a four-hour magnum opus, but sources told several trades that Warner Bros. was willing to pay upward of $20-$30 million to realize Zack Snyder’s original vision. “We have a little work to do,” Zack Snyder admitted after the studio announced Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

What is the difference between Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League? Over the course of the rowdy “Zack Snyder cut” fan campaign, Zack Snyder himself has used the social media platform Vero to tease snippets of lost footage (shot by Zack Snyder) and Zack Snyder-approved concept art. Zack Snyder’s puzzle pieces suggested that, if Zack Snyder had had his way, Zack Snyder’s Justice League would have crossed paths with Darkseid, the ultimate “New God” villain of the DC comic universe. It’s unclear how far along Zack Snyder is with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but he’s in deep enough to have evidence of Darkseid’s presence in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. On Wednesday, to coincide with the launch of HBO Max, Zack Snyder tweeted the first fuzzy image of Zack Snyder’s Darkseid. He looks mad!

HBO Max’s mile-long launch-day slate has a number of Zack Snyder films, including Sucker Punch, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. But due to some contractual obligations, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will depart the platform in June, leaving fans who want a taste of Zack Snyder’s Justice League in action only a few days before the year-long wait for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
