Triumph Tiger 900 pre-bookings commence

Triumph Motorcycles India has thrown open pre-bookings for the new Tiger 900 range. The booking amount is set at Rs 50,000 and customers can reserve their Tiger 900 on the official booking website.
Since its launch in international markets, Triumph says that the new Tiger 900 has generated a lot of interest among Indian buyers, which is one of the reasons why it has opened pre-bookings here. The other reason is the growing anticipation following delays due to the global COVID-19 crisis. The Tiger 900 was supposed to go on sale in India in the month of May but given the lockdown, prices for the new range will now be revealed in June 2020.
Variants available
The Triumph Tiger 900 will be available in three variants - Rally Pro, Rally and GT. The Rally Pro is the top-spec, off-road-biased variant and is loaded with features such as LED fog lamps, comprehensive crash protection, six riding modes, a tyre pressure monitoring system, heated seats and a quickshifter. While the lower-spec Tiger 900 Rally misses out on the above features, it still gets a 7.0-inch TFT screen, heated grips and cruise control, among other kit. The base Rally version also has to make do with four riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport and Off-road). This means it misses out on the Off-road Pro and Rider programmable modes, both of which are only available with the Rally Pro variant.
The Tiger 900 GT is the base road-biased version, evident from the alloy wheels, Marzocchi suspension and lower seat height of 810-830mm; the Tiger 900 Rally’s is set at 850-870mm. It gets the same features and number of riding modes that are available on the Tiger 900 Rally.
Surprisingly, Triumph India isn’t launching the Tiger 900 GT Pro version in India, for now. This top-spec, road-biased variant gets an electronically adjustable Marzocchi rear monoshock, along with the same features as seen on the Rally Pro model. It could be that Triumph India wants to tread cautiously and watch the demand grow before increasing the inventory, considering the uncertainty around the pandemic and lockdowns.
All variants share the same frame, bolt-on subframe and 888cc, liquid-cooled, inline triple engine. This new unit produces 93.9hp and uses a 1-3-2 firing order that significantly changes the sound and characteristics, especially when compared to the old engine.
Pricing and availability
Triumph India has been pretty competitive with its pricing for the past few models, but we expect that the Tiger 900 will be about Rs 60,000-Rs 1 lakh dearer than the outgoing Tiger 800, depending on the model in question. For reference, the Tiger 800’s price range was Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 15.16 lakh. With the launch set to take place in June, deliveries should begin a few weeks down the line. However, this is largely dependent on the lockdown situation in each city and state.
