All eight Harry Potter movies are ready to stream on HBO Max

HBO Max launches with all eight Harry Potter movies available for streaming

by

Harry Potter fans were in for a nice surprise following the launch of HBO Max.

The new streaming service finally launched on Wednesday and all eight Harry Potter movies were sitting pretty on its homepage, despite not being previously advertised.

There was no talk of Hazza P dropping on HBO Max, with fans not expecting to see the much-loved franchise on the streaming platform until a much later date.

WarnerMedia, however, appeared to pull some strings and every film from The Philosopher’s Stone right up to The Deathly Hallows (parts one and two) is now ready for viewing.

Don’t mind if we do, that’s our lockdown (or at least two days of it) sorted.

ComicBook reports that the move was a similar one pulled by Disney, who had teased a select few of the Marvel movies would be dropping on its own streaming service Disney+, with fans – only for almost every Marvel movie to be included.

According to AdWeek’s TV editor Jason Lynch, WarnerMedia were able to get the full Harry Potter franchise ‘under contract at the last minute’.

Well, we’re glad to see it. After all, we have the Harry Potter movies to thank for very neatly tying up a plot hole from the books.

Remember that two-way mirror that allows its owners to communicate with each other in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?

The very same mirror that is then swiftly forgotten about as Harry then uses the Floo Network to contact Sirius Black instead – well, the movies recognised that and decided to ultimately disregard the mirror altogether to prevent that little bit of confusion.

Oh, and another thing that has come to light during lockdown, is that first editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone are worth a lot, a lot of money.

One first edition of the book was found in a skip – after being tossed out by a school library before being saved at the last minute – and went for £33,000 at auction.

Not bad, eh.
